How to Consume News
It is really easy to become distracted by the news cycle. There is always something happening that seeks your attention. Most news stories you encounter are short-term, have little or no impact on your life, and will be forgotten within a week.
However, there are significant stories that will impact your life substantially. These stories deserve careful study and reflection in a quiet environment, allowing you to reach your own conclusions.
Instead of letting news constantly seek your attention, you can reverse this and seek news on your own terms, selecting topics that genuinely interest you and merit deeper inquiry.
What do I mean by this?
You can create a curated list of individuals, organizations, or publications that you respect and admire. Consume content from this list intentionally, at a time when you are ready and can dedicate your full attention to the topic.
Your list can be very simple—a spreadsheet with links, categories, or tags (such as economics or politics), or even links to social media profiles of individuals you respect. Use this list during designated blocks of time, rather than continuously checking for updates.
This approach is beneficial because it saves you considerable time, enabling you to focus more on what truly matters to you.
